The idea for Blue Diamond Drama Academy began with Dr Anthony Walsh and his wife Susan. Having witnessed first-hand the lack of facilities for adults with a talent and passion for drama, they decided to investigate the possibility of providing a place where adults with intellectual disabilities could come together to learn and grow through the medium of performing arts.
“This is a small attempt to fill the gap at third level for people in Ireland with intellectual disabilities”Dr Anthony Walsh
Inspired by the wonderful work being carried out by Blue Teapot in Galway, most particularly the award-winning production of “Sanctuary”, coupled with a keen awareness of the lack of drama training for young adults with intellectual disability, the Blue Diamond Drama Academy was born.
